The Drug Trafficking Solution

Narcotics trafficking and the criminal organizations that sponsor it represent the gravest and most complex threat to democracy and human rights that we face today, according to America’s Quarterly recent feature on drug trafficking. Governments are easily eroded by criminal drug connections that wield multi-billion dollar empires. There is also the threat by even sincere government officials engaging large police forces that then threaten the human rights of all concerned.

The facts are drug money flows through the Americas infecting any weak link and purchasing political control. Fortunately, the answer to drug trafficking doesn’t rely in politics or violent police forces. The answer lies in effective drug education and drug rehabilitation . The answer is the Narconon program.

If one is going to put out a fire one has to direct the extinguisher at the source, one doesn’t just spray the flames. The source that fuels drug trade is ignorance and addiction. The Narconon program addresses both of these.

Narconon, a non-profit drug rehabilitation and education organization, was established in 1966 and soon became a worldwide organization known for its successful handling of drug addiction. Hard-core heroin addicts were the very first successful graduates.

Recently, in Mexico where drug cartel murders are in the tens of thousands in the past few years, Narconon has entered the scene with their first step program open to all. Before Narconon the heroin withdrawal methods in use were wholly ineffective, consisting of merely tying towels around the addicts hands to prevent them from clawing their face when withdrawing from heroin.

Now armed with the technology of Narconon, more than 30 different Mexican rehabs have begun using the Narconon first step program which withdraws addicts from even the fiercest drug with minimal discomfort. Using proper nutritional supplements designed to assist withdrawal and gentle physical techniques heroin and other drug addicts routinely withdraw without the traditional horrible withdrawal symptoms.

The other answer to drug addiction is education. Narconon delivers effective drug education to school aged children and high-risk teens. These talks are delivered all over the world. Narconon drug education doesn’t just preach at children to "say no". Instead the speakers engage the children in their own realities and teaches them what it is they are saying no to and why.

Drug cartels can’t be out-gunned or out-financed as long as ignorance of the truth about drugs exist. Governments would be far better off to spend their resources in killing the demand for drugs at the source - ignorance of drugs themselves and their devastation.

Drug Rehab or Jail?

When one is facing drug charges and prison time such as Cameron Douglas, the son of Michael Douglas, society and families are faced with few options.  Illegal drug activity is treated in the same manner as other crimes, but at what expense?

There are 23 million Americans facing the need for drug rehab according to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy . There is also an ever increasing U.S. criminal population with 2.3 million in jail and prison and over 5 million on parole and probation. With few solutions in sight for this increasing problem, Narconon drug rehab centers are experts in drug rehabilitation and prevention, shed some light on drug addiction and crime.

Narconon explains, in the 1970s there were 322,300 adult drug arrests made in the U.S. but, by 2007, over 1,645,500 adults and 195,700 kids were arrested for drug abuse violations.  In that same time period TV and print media ads for alcohol and drugs have flooded every possible advertising channel.

Narconon, in their drug education lectures puts it this way. A child from the earliest TV watching age onward is promoted to heavily showing that alcohol and drugs are a good thing. Beer commercials commonly show the athletic guys partying with the beautiful models. The more recent prescription drug ads show people taking prescription drugs having all sorts of relief and pleasure. The missing element is the truth. .

Seldom do TV beer commercials show the typical out of shape drinker with a beer belly, red complexion and offensive alcohol breath.  It’s doubtful such a character attracts the beautiful women in the ads, nor would he be a role model for children. The TV ads never show the person on prescription drugs exhibiting anxiety, depression, hostility, anger, suicidal thoughts, physical difficulties or the host of other side effects associated with prescription drugs. Since all drugs are poisons to a body any benefit is at best limited, as in the case of an operation or acute accident or illness.

Children and thus the culture over the last 30 years have been heavily impressed upon by drug and alcohol companies that drugs are the solution and answer to nearly every problem people face. However, as the rising drug abuse and criminal population figures show, there must be something wrong with this total solution.

Perhaps if there were truth in advertising over 215 Billion U.S. dollars wouldn’t be being spent on police, judicial and prison expenses for the 7 million adult criminals.

Of the 1.5 million in prison it costs Americans 68 billion to feed, house and care for these prisoners, many of which are serving time for drug offenses. A more effective and inexpensive solution is drug rehabilitation for non-violent offenders. Although most traditional drug rehabs aren’t worth the investment as they have only a 14% success rate, the Narconon program fully graduated has an over 70% success rate and would be worth the investment at a fraction of the cost.

The good news is Narconon often works with the courts as an effective drug rehabilitation solution and as such lessens the burden on society not only in omitted prison expenses but also in the fact that Narconon graduates go on to lead ethical, productive, drug-free lives.

White House 2011 Drug Control Budget - A Double Edged Proposition

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy has announced its proposed budget for 2011. This budget is a 13.4 % increase over the previous one. More than 15 billion taxpayer dollars will be poured into drug control. Drug control is a necessary evil, however, there is a double edge to it.

Narconon is a non-profit drug prevention, education and rehabilitation organization.  There are over 122 Narconon centers worldwide and Narconon has the highest known success rate in the field of drug rehabilitation.  Their drug education and prevention lectures have been delivered to over 3.5 million school children and a recent outcome study validates the effectiveness of the drug education lectures.

With all this community success and 44 years of experience in the field of working with children and rehabilitating drug addicts, Narconon points out there is a flaw in President Obama’s drug control budget. While the DEA and similar organizations will be funded and have become necessary, the largest drug abuse problem by the White House’s own statistics and Narconon’s own hand’s on experience is abuse of prescription drugs. For example one in ten 12th graders report abusing Vicodin according to the White House.

On the one hand President Obama wants to fund drug control.  On the other hand he wants to set forth the largest health care reform to date making prescription drugs even more available and requiring health screenings.  As the White House states: "The United States spent approximately $2.2 trillion on health care in 2007, or $7,421 per person – nearly twice the average of other developed nations."  At the same time we have rising drug abuse problems with prescription painkillers now being one of the hottest drugs in trade. Not to mention the countless TV and media ads for Americans to "ask your doctor" for a drug as a result of Congress softening drug advertising laws in the U.S.  The message presented is loud and clear, "You are sick and you need a drug".  You’ll note in all the drug ads however, nowhere is there any mention of the word "cure".

On every hand the U.S. has seeped itself in drug culture.  Narconon would like to point out that all drugs are essentially poisons.  On a short term some can be of assistance.  A few are necessary.  However, the vast majority advertised and abused drugs do lead to addiction and all have side effects, some of which include death, which one could hardly label as a "side effect", but the drug companies manage it and still sell the "FDA approved" drug.  With 23 million Americans in need of drug rehabilitation according to the White House Office of Drug Control Policy , the real focus should be on educating Americans on the dangers of drug abuse and how to prevent it.  The U.S. solution of spending more, enforcing more and providing easy drug access to all is a short road to ruin in an already heavily drugged culture. (See the Office of National Drug Control Policy’s Holiday PSA.)

Of the $15.5 billion President Obama wants to spend on drug control less than $150 million will be spent on drug education. Fortunately for America, Narconon offers drug education to all.

Narconon provides the answers to drugs and drug addiction in more ways than one. The name Narconon literally means "no-drug" and with this as a fundamental they provide statistically successful drug education and drug rehabilitation .

Obama Offers Hope for Non-Violent Drug Offenders

With the Mexican drug wars heating up, President Barack Obama is now focusing on demand reduction in the United States by tackling the problem of narcotic addiction. Currently there are more than 22 million people in our country who are suffering with substance abuse issues – a clear strain on the economy, crime rates and a problem wherein the solution lies only through effective drug rehabilitation programs.

The President just appointed Gil Kerlikowske to be the new drug czar for the United States. Mr. Kerlikowske will be charged with improving the standards of treatment for addicts across the country. The White House will also implement an increase in funding for drug treatment programs and to increase the number of drug courts. There is also a plan to give non-violent drug offenders a chance to serve their sentences in effective drug rehab programs, instead of sending these offenders into the prison system.

Now the problem rests in finding the right type of drug rehabilitation that actually can produce long-term positive results for addicts. One such program, that has been doing this for the last 44 years, is the Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation program. “The reason why Narconon is so effective is because we handle both the physical and mental components of addiction by using a totally drug free method to treat addicts and as a result have achieved a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety,” says Erica Catton CCDC and Director of Public Services for Narconon Eastern United States. “This program has proven time and time again that it can deliver positive results that handle addiction.”

The way that the Narconon program does this is by addressing the physical symptoms through a sauna detoxification program that removes residues left by drugs and thereby reduces drug cravings. The program also helps former addicts regain control of their lives by increasing their awareness and personal responsibility for themselves and their environment. Another essential component of the program is that through a series of Life Skills Courses, they can overcome past behaviors and are able to apply newly learned skills to now leading a positive, productive life.

Tackling the drug problem in the United States is a very large effort, but through effective drug rehabilitation programs addicts can be returned back into society as productive, ethical and contributing members.

Successful Drug Rehab Will Help Economy

Filed under: Narconon, drug rehabilitation — Tags: , — nneastus @ 12:10 am

Why successful drug rehab is essential in this tough economic climate.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the unemployment rate in the United States just rose to 7.6%, which is a 16-year-high and the worst many have seen in years. The economic scene has yet to get better as just in the last 4 months the number of unemployed persons has risen by 4.1 million.

Just this week, President Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus plan was approved to revive the economy and save jobs. And in the midst of all this, the federal government is spending hundreds of billions of dollars per year on ineffective drug rehabilitation programs and incarceration costs for non-violent drug offenders.

One way to cut those costs and to safeguard the financial strength of this country in the future is to have drug rehab programs that work. This reduces inflated spending on our prison systems and stops taxpayer’s funding of other types of treatment that have shown to be unsuccessful. In addition, the outcome of an effective drug rehabilitation program is a person who is contributing to our economy, instead of someone who is taking from it.

One such program that does work to attain positive results is the Narconon® program. According to recent statistics from www.drugbulletin.org, Narconon rehabilitation centers continue to achieve a drug-free success rate that is above 70%. This is done by a combination of a drug-free withdrawal, sauna detoxification program and a series of life skills courses that are developed to improve the addict and help him to become a responsible, ethical, contributing member of society.

Our country has a long, hard road ahead and implementing successful drug rehabilitation programs will return much-needed dollars back into an ailing economy.

Former Inmate’s Legacy Saves Thousands of Lives

Narconon drug rehab program founded by ex-addict celebrates 43-years of saving lives.

William Benitez started smoking marijuana when he was 15. His drug use escalated on to injecting opiates and was arrested several times on drug charges. Because of his addiction, he spent many years going in and out of the prison system with no hope of drug rehabilitation.

Benitez’s last trip to prison was for possession of narcotics. He was sentenced, as a habitual offender, to fifteen years to life in prison. During his last plea to the judge before sentencing William explained all the attempts he had made over the years to stop using drugs including joining the Marines, committing himself to hospitals for psychiatric care and therapy, moving to isolated areas even marrying twice hoping that something would help him get clean.

In spite of all Benitez’s failures he still had the desire to stop using drugs. While serving his prison sentence other inmates passed around books to keep themselves busy. Benitez was given a book by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that dealt with human behavior. He started reading this book, and then others, studying each one very carefully. Benitez, for the first time, felt he had an answer to the problem he had been trying to solve for years.

William Benitez spent the following months putting together a program using Hubbard’s technology and requesting permission from prison officials to allow him to deliver this program to 20 other inmates all convicted drug addicts. After several requests to officials Benitez received permission to operate the program on a trial basis. He called the program Narconon because it meant no drugs, or narcotics-none.

This past February the Narconon program celebrated its 43rd anniversary. The program achieves a 70% success rate for permanent sobriety.

New Evidence Validates Reasons for Drug Free Rehabilitation

According to a recent article from the New York Times the drug maker AstraZeneca just buried studies on its popular drug Seroquel. These studies stated that the drug caused side effects such as diabetes and weight gain in patients. As a result the drug maker is now facing more than 9,000 personal injury lawsuits from more than 15,000 former users of this drug.

Seroquel, a drug approved in 1996, to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, is one of the many antidepressants being prescribed to millions of people in the United States alone. Not only has the drug come under fire for its dangerous side effects, but also for its off-label marketing, stating that it can treat problems such as dementia, ADD (attention deficit disorder), depression and insomnia.

Unfortunately Seroquel is also one of the many drugs that doctors will sometimes prescribe to those struggling with substance abuse issues to "handle" addiction related problems. As a result, many addicts will struggle through dangerous side effects caused by the drug, can often become addicted to the drug itself, and in most cases are unable to stay drug free.

This is why most effective drug rehabilitation programs use a totally drug free approach to handle addiction and as a result of this, achieve up to a 70% success rate for permanent sobriety in patients. One program that does this on a consistent basis is the Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program. The way the Narconon Program treats addiction is through a combination of a drug-free withdrawal, a sauna detoxification program and a series of life skills courses that have the end-result of an addict becoming a sober, ethical, contributing member of society.
