Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment Needed More Than Ever

The most recent wave of drug addiction happens to be those drugs prescribed by physicians.  There are several reasons for this. The availability of prescription drugs and the direct advertising to consumers plays a role.  The phrase "buyer beware" is of the utmost importance when one is talking drugs, no matter the condition they are taken for.

Prescription drug addiction treatment has been more and more needed as more and more consumers are taking increasing numbers of drugs. The Narconon program is an successful drug treatment program for prescription drugs and as such they have seen an increasing number of prescription drug addicts coming to them for help.

A survey done by the National Institute on drug abuse reports that 48 million people-about 20 percent of the U.S. population-aged 12 or older had used prescription drugs for non-medical reasons in their lifetimes. When one considers these numbers it is no mystery why so many Americans are showing up in drug rehab hooked on their doctors prescriptions or those obtained off the street.

Pain is the usual reason one begins taking prescription painkillers. However, unless the underlying reason for the pain is addressed either structurally, as in setting a bone, or nutritionally or pathologically, the patient continues to suffer long-term and more and more relies on prescription pain killers to ease the pain. The unfortunate part is that as one continue to take pain killers, they cease to deaden the pain as they initially did, requiring the user to use larger and larger doses. The result can be addiction.

The Narconon program addresses prescription addiction by first having the person medically examined to locate any underlying deficiencies or illnesses. The person is then helped with nutritional supplements that aid withdrawal and gentle physical techniques that assist withdrawal.

The program’s next step is removing the drug residues from the person’s body with a safe sauna program that is nutritionally balanced and has been proven to do just that.

The personal issues the person was having that led to his addiction are then addressed so that he can become more able in life and have the knowledge he needs to handle life’s problems and not have to resort to drug use as a solution. Underlying stress is often a cause of many physical ailments that may have led to the need for pain pills to begin with.

By doing the full Narconon program, the person is able to come off of drugs and live a happy drug-free life.

Narconon Drug Rehab Philosophy

When a family has a member addicted to drugs or alcohol or one is looking for a drug rehab facility, arguing over philosophic methods is hardly appropriate. However, results are.  Will my son or daughter get results and be able to live drug free? This question is more to the point.  One organization provides stellar results and has a new philosophy proving to be more workable than older ones.

Scientists and the medical and chemical dependency community have argued for years over whether drug or alcohol addiction is a genetically or bio-chemically predisposed condition. One school of thought embraces the "disease concept", the idea that addiction is a genetic disease and the individual is permanently ill at a genetic level. However, the Narconon program presents a new philosophy into this scene, and this one is backed up by drug rehab results of permanent recovery from addiction.

There is a philosophy called the Life Cycle of Addiction. In this case, it is viewed that a person has a problem, discomfort or some form of emotional or physical pain they are experiencing. They find this difficulty very hard to deal with. In fact, they have no solution.

This is something we have all had to deal with at one time or another in our lives, a difficult or traumatic situation that we had no solution for. The difference with a person that becomes an addict is that at the time of this traumatic experience they are subjected to a drug or alcohol influence that then, due to the painkilling effects, provides a temporary relief from the negative feelings associated with the problem.

Once the drug or alcohol is used as a solution, and provides relief, the person is liable to use it again and again as the pain returns when the drug or intoxicated feeling wears off.

This leads to addiction.

To solve addiction, the mental and physical factors connected with it must be addressed. The Narconon drug rehabilitation program that has been in use for over 40 years addresses these factors and returns to the addict their self-determinism over drugs and alcohol enabling them to live a drug-free life.

The Narconon program uses the philosophy of the life cycle of addiction and as such achieves a 70% success rate on average. Traditional philosophies have about a 16-20% recovery rate. Truly understanding addiction can make all the difference.

Study Shows the Truth About Drugs

Filed under: Narconon, drug rehab — Tags: , — nneastus @ 7:00 pm

Prescription drugs have been the subject of much scrutiny in recent years, however, a new study reveals such criticism may be valid.

Prescription drug abuse has become a serious problem in America in recent years. So much so the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency refers to our nation as a "pill taking society".  Antidepressants are just one of the many prescription drugs that can result in addiction and abuse as Narconon a drug education and rehabilitation group, has seen as an ever-increasing problem with prescription drug addiction in the drug rehab field.

Doctors and scientists look at drugs from the studies and results just as consumers should. However, one has to wade through large amounts of conflicting studies to get at the truth. Marketing plays a role in many studies conducted as well as who funds the study and for what purpose.

Recently, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that except for severe cases of depression, placebos worked just as well as antidepressants in treating depression.

With evidence like this known to the medical community, why would doctors continue to prescribe them?  A key ingredient may be that no mass media advertising campaign, including drug rep visits to doctors, has been run on taking placebos. Yet for the same result on patients, placebos come with no side effects and are remarkably cheap.

Prescriptions are also how many try to ‘treat’ addiction. But what Narconon has seen is that many addicts will replace their drug addiction with the prescriptions or become cross addicted and the need for real treatment will become even greater as the addiction progresses because addicts are given more drugs.

The truth is all drugs are an unnatural substance entered into the body to hopefully produce the effect the person wants from taking the drug or that is advertised.  However, as the DEA states, "You cannot predict the effect that a drug can have on you!"  This is true of all drugs. When drugs are labeled as controlled substances they are meant to be taken under the care of a physician for this exact reason. The problem arises when patients don’t report the side effects they experience or as is often the case, don’t know a certain reaction is the result of a side effect from taking a drug, and one main reaction of actually becoming dependent on the drug.

Unfortunately some Americans will be lead to take drugs seeking a solution to their addictions as long as there are ads to promote benefits. Regardless of the short term benefits, the full side effects and the long term effects of most drugs are only partly known when a drug hits the market.

Drugs have become mainstream in society, leading to 23 million Americans addicted. It is up to the individuals to find out the truth for themselves about drugs. Narconon drug rehabilitation programs have been providing that truth about drugs and a real solution for addiction since the 1960s.

Drug Rehab Must Encompass Physical Handling

The effectiveness of Narconon drug treatment centers on a process that reduces physical drug cravings.

Before Barry Smith* went into the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program his life was in complete chaos. Struggling with addiction for more than seven years, Barry had tried many types of treatment but always ended up back on drugs. He wound up looking at jail time after receiving his second driving under the influence (DUI) charge, lost his home and he was living on the streets and in various drug houses.

“I was confused and depressed,” he explains. “It was my fifth attempt at drug rehab and I wanted to go into a program that would help me to stop using drugs permanently.”

Barry enrolled in the Narconon program and one of the first steps of treatment was handling the physical aspect of his addiction. The Narconon program uses a unique therapy to reduce physical drug cravings through a dry-heat sauna. Clients undergo the sauna detoxification process that actually helps to remove drug residues from the body in order to reduce physical cravings, which many consider to be the number one reason why a person relapses. A key component of this cleansing process is also replenishing the body with nutritional supplements so that people heal faster and feel better.

“The sauna was great,” says Barry. “I felt better than I had ever felt in my life. I had no urges to use drugs anymore, more energy and finally felt normal again.”

Erica Catton, Director of Public Services at Narconon explains that recent government addiction studies point to relapse rates with drug treatment between 40 and 60% as an industry norm. Catton comments that one of the main reasons for that is that most treatment programs to not address this physical aspect of addiction.

“Many of the clients we see that come through Narconon have tried and failed at other types of treatment,” she says. “But it’s not that those programs are ineffective but that they do not address the physical aspect of addiction so clients are much more likely to relapse.”

The program also addresses the mental and emotional components of addiction by using life skills therapy to help raise the ability of the individual.

Using this proven approach to handling substance abuse, the program achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from addiction.   While the program is individually-based, it is considered long-term because it can easily last 3-6 months.

And as a result of this successful treatment Barry has been able to get and staff off drugs stably. “Narconon was the only thing that worked for me,” he says. “I am completely drug free and I feel great.”

Narconon Leads the Way on Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention

According to Narconon of Georgia, one of the simplest ways to prevent prescription drug abuse is to clean out your medicine cabinet.

The National Institute on Drug Abus e reports that 48 million people over the age of 12 have used a prescription drug for a non-medical reason. That figure constitutes nearly 20% of the entire population of the United States.  Currently prescription drugs are the second most commonly abused drugs in the country, coming in behind alcohol, with an average of 100,000 people dying each year as a result of prescription drug abuse.

The most surprising fact about prescription addicts is that most can easily get their fix by going into a friend or family member’s medicine cabinet and abusing prescription medications left behind unknowingly by the person who was prescribed them by a doctor for an illness or injury.

In order to stop this ever-growing problem and reduce prescription drug abuse the Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program in Georgia just launched Operation Medicine Cabinet.
A campaign sponsored by both Narconon® of Georgia and a local Sheriff’s department, provides people with a safe way to properly dispose of unused and potentially dangerous medications that they may have left in their homes.

"Operation Medicine Cabinet" was put in place to educate the community on the dangers of prescription drug and promote the need for effective treatment for those already addicted.  Narconon of Georgia operates a long-term drug rehab program that specializes in prescription drug addiction and achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety.

“We are very proud of the Operation Medicine Cabinet campaign launched by our Narconon center in Georgia.”  Says Erica Catton, Director of Promotion at Narconon East U.S. “We want all our centers to join this campaign, working with their local authorities to increase awareness in their communities of how easily people can get prescriptions and what simple steps they can take to help keep their families safe.”

For more information on "Operation Medicine Cabinet" and how you can start this campaign in your community, contact Narconon of Georgia at 770-379-0208 or Narconon East U.S. at 877-237-3307.

After Drug Rehab, Is Relapse A Part Of Recovery?

Filed under: Narconon, drug rehab — Tags: , — nneastus @ 8:45 pm

Drug addiction treatment has been put in place to stop the use of drugs and return individuals back to society as being productive, ethical and drug-free. There is much research that supports the benefits of drug rehabilitation, such as reduced criminal behavior, reduced disease and other related health problems, as well as an overall improvement societal functioning. However, there is a bit of disagreement as to the length of sobriety an individual can attain through drug rehab and if permanent recovery can be reached through successful treatment.

Part of this disagreement stems from the definitions used for what is considered addiction and what is recovery?  And the underlying, unsubstantiated theory:  Is addiction a chronic disease?

According to a document released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, entitled Principals of Drug Addiction Recovery , relapse with addiction is often compared to chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma.  The document also adds that the relapse rate for addiction is between 40% and 60% which is actually more than those suffering from diabetes but a bit less than individuals with asthma or hypertension. This theory has contributed to “fear of treatment” with many addicts who feel that even with drug rehab , they will not remain clean and sober.

There is however direct evidence against these disease theories produced by the thousands of addicts who do receive effective treatment each year and maintain their permanent sobriety.
One program that produces a large number of permanent recovery cases on a continual basis is the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Since 1966, Narconon has achieved a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from addiction. The program has graduated more than 25,000 addicts just since 1995 with the belief that addiction is not a disease and that an individual can fully overcome substance abuse.

Sarah Cline is one example of this as a former heroin addict and graduate from the Narconon program in 2001. “I was doing $100.00 worth of heroin per day and Narconon was the first drug rehab program I was ever admitted to,” she explains. “Through their treatment I was able to put my addiction behind me forever. I have been sober for 8 years now. When I finished Narconon substance abuse was no longer a part of my life.”

The theory that addiction is a disease is just that; a theory. An individual can overcome a drug addiction problem with the right type of drug treatment.

Narconon Celebrates National Recovery Month

With National Recovery Month fast approaching, Narconon celebrates more than 40 years of successful treatment.

This year National Recovery Month, a group whose aim it is to promote benefits of drug and alcohol rehab in society, will celebrate 20 years of promoting that successful recovery is possible with drug treatment. A major participant in the annual National Recovery Month campaigns is the Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program.  Having helped hundreds of thousands of addicts, family members and loved ones that have been negatively affected by addiction, Narconon spreads the word that effective rehab can lead to permanent recovery.

The Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program was started in 1964 by a habitual criminal and heroin addict, William Benitez, who was searching for a solution to his own substance abuse problems. One day while browsing through the prison library he came upon a book by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that offered him a permanent solution to his own addiction.

From there the Narconon program grew and now operates more than 150 centers in 50 different countries, providing successful treatment to addicts from across the globe while achieving a more than 70% success rate for permanent recovery from substance abuse.

One area that Narconon has really helped is the eastern United States.  The program currently operates 6 Narconon centers in this part of the country and has plans to open many more. Erica Catton, Director of Promotion for Narconon East U.S.  explains, “Our program gets results and we have many successes that we will be promoting over the next month to celebrate National Recovery Month and show that permanent recovery from addiction is possible with successful treatment.”

In addition to sharing true stories of recovery, many of the Narconon centers in the eastern United States will be working in the drug prevention arena during this time to educate children, families, and communities on the dangers of addiction to stop substance abuse before it starts.

“Narconon continues to expand delivery in both the drug rehabilitation and drug prevention areas,” adds Catton. “We are very proud of what our program has achieved in creating stable recovery for thousands of addicts and we look forward to helping more people from around the world.”

Sister Recovers From Addiction Through Narconon

Filed under: Narconon, drug rehab — Tags: , — nneastus @ 1:36 am

Jeffrey Trimwater* watched his sister struggle through a substance abuse problem for many years. He remembers there being many family arguments over the problem with no solutions in sight. One day when his parents told him that his sister was going into Narconon drug rehab, Jeffery was finally able to get some relief.

Today and with National Recovery Month approaching n September Jeffrey has even more of a reason to celebrate his sister’s successful recovery.  Since completing Narconon drug treatment, she has been stably off drugs for more than 8 years.

“I do not know what we would have done if Narconon hadn’t helped my sister,” says Jeffrey. “After she finished the program there, she never went back to drugs. We had always hoped this was going to be the case but with the success rate of most programs we couldn’t be sure. The idea of her going back to drugs after treatment never made sense to us, and that was one of the reasons why we chose Narconon.”

Narconon , a long-term residential program works on the basis that addiction is not a disease. The program has been successfully helping addicts recover from addiction for more than 43 years and currently has more than 100 centers in 50 different countries. The Narconon program achieves a more than 70% for permanent recovery from addiction.

And long-term success is something that Narconon has achieved with many clients that undergo drug treatment through Narconon, as the program has graduates more than 25,000 addicts just since 1995.

“I can only hope that people are able to find a program that can really help and get results like we did with Narconon, “says Trimwater. “Drug treatment should not be a revolving door.”

The Prescription Drug Epidemic in Pennsylvania

While one ex-addict got clean through Narconon drug treatment, Pennsylvania authorities indicate that the drug abuse in the area continues to increase.

Sarah Cline* never thought she would become a prescription drug addict. Raised in a large middle-class family from western Pennsylvania, Sarah was brought up in a safe and healthy environment where she was taught morals the given the knowledge of differences between what was right and wrong. But that all changed after a dental surgery when she was prescribed Vicodin.

“After I started abusing Vicodin I was hooked,” she says. “Everything I was taught as a child went out the window. I lied; I stole; I did whatever I could to get high. I hurt the people I loved the most; my family.”

After abusing Vicodin for several months, Sarah moved on to a harder drug, OxyContin, and within a year she was a full-blown heroin addict.

This story may sound familiar as Sarah is one of many in the area that have gotten sucked into the downward spiral of drug addiction.

Detective Thomas Keirn is a narcotics agent with the Cambria County Drug Task Force who has been involved in drug investigations since the late 1980’s has first-hand knowledge about this growing problem. “The abuse of prescription drugs is very high in this area and I have spoken to many pharmacists in the local area and they agree that many of the prescription drugs are being abused and over prescribed by certain doctors,” he says. “This is a great concern for law enforcement on all levels of the government.”

In addition, Detective Keirn adds that the area has a large group of people who are addicted to painkillers and are now trading and selling their medication for profit and are making the jump into other illicit drugs. The two of the most common drugs they are moving to are heroin and crack cocaine, depending on the prescriptions they started out with.
So what is the solution for addicts in western Pennsylvania?

In Sarah Cline’s case the only thing that helped her was going in to drug treatment. “I was lost,” she says. “I just wanted my next fix. My parents saw how far downhill I had gone and they offered me help. I went into a drug rehab program called Narconon and have been off drug for 8 years.”

Without treatment, many addicts in Pennsylvania face the negative consequences of addiction; prison or death.

“There have been many overdoses associated with painkillers and they sometimes are by mistake and others times intentional,” says Detective Keirn. “In either case the misuse of prescription pills is a very serious problem in our society and it is up to all of us to help combat drug abuse within our families and our circle of friends.”

Sarah Cline agrees. “If I hadn’t gone into drug treatment I would not be here today,” she says. “Getting help is the best way out of it. It was the only way for me to successfully overcome addiction.”

Narconon is a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that achieves a success rate of more than 70% for permanent sobriety from addiction.  If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction problem contact Narconon today at 877-237-3307.

Alcoholism No Longer A Problem For Narconon Graduate

Ex-alcohol addict gets and stays sober for 10 years thanks to Narconon drug rehab program.

Imagine feeling depressed, lazy and unmotivated every day of your life. Well this is exactly what Stephen Austin* experienced when he became addicted to alcohol. Now 10 years clean and sober, Stephen looks back on his life as a former alcoholic, and explains that the addiction caused him to drop out of college, quit his job and basically alienate everyone that cared about him.

The last straw was one night when Stephen was even pulled over for a DUI, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because that was when his parents found the drug and alcohol rehab program that saved his life. The name of the program was Narconon.

When Stephen arrived at the Narconon program he felt stuck and scared at first but as he started the program he felt tremendous sense of relief. Looking back on it Stephen explains what helped him the most, “I would say two parts for me.  The first was definitely the sauna program. It was amazing and completely life-changing.  The second would have to be fully understanding how to change conditions in life and realizing that I could actually be responsible for what happened to me.”

The Narconon program is a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that achieves a success rate of more than 70% for permanent sobriety. Narconon has been helping people end addiction since 1966 and has had more than 25,000 graduates of their program just since 1995. The reason why Narconon is so successful in treating addiction is because it handles the problem on two levels – first tackling the physical aspect of addiction and using a sauna detoxification program to remove drug residues from the body thereby eliminating physical cravings.

The second part of the Narconon program handles the underlying issues of why the person started using drugs in the first place, and by using life skills therapy raises the ability of the individual so they no longer have to abuse drugs or alcohol.
Today, with 10 years of living drug- and alcohol-free, Stephen is successfully self-employed, has been married for 7 years, and says he has an “unbelievably beautiful and amazing” daughter.

“After doing a TON of research, I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that there is no other drug or alcohol treatment center that offers more to rehabilitate a person than Narconon,” claims Austin.
