Narconon Helps To Curb Marijuana Problem in Florida

As marijuana cultivation increases in Florida, Narconon expands its in-state treatment capacity.

According to recent statistics, Florida is the number one state in the nation for indoor marijuana cultivation. In 2006, alone there were almost 50,000 marijuana plants eradicated in the state through the Drug Enforcement Administration and more than 500 homes in Florida growing the substance.

Marijuana has been a commonly abused drug for many years but with the recent increase in availability and cultivation, it is being used more and more by residents of Florida.

Narconon , an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program has recently seen a surge of clients coming into their program for marijuana abuse. “Based on the fact that more than 30% of high school student have tried marijuana before graduating high school there are going to be a number of people who become addicted and use it every day,” says Erica Catton Director of Promotion for Narconon. “And many of them not be able to stop without some type of treatment program.”  Catton adds that the indoor cultivation in the state reports have shown that the THC levels of the drug are dramatically higher, coming up from 7% to 25% or more,  making it harder for those who start smoking marijuana to stop using.

The good news is that there are now three Narconon programs located in Florida that specialize in handling marijuana addiction and achieve a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from the drug.

“We have personally graduated hundreds of marijuana addicts from our drug treatment programs in Florida,” says Catton. “But, with cultivation of marijuana being a major problem in the state, we knew there are many more people out there that need help.”

Narconon has stably handled addiction for 44 years,” adds Catton. “This is what we do.”

Florida Drug Rehab Program Helps Addicts

Narconon Spring Hill will help to decrease the number of negative consequences of addiction throughout Florida with successful drug treatment .

According to recent statistics there has been an increase in drug abuse across the state of Florida. Cocaine, the drug of choice of the state, continues to cause the most damage as the White House Drug Policy reports that overdose deaths from the drug were at 398 in 2007 and accounted for 829 deaths in 2006.

Other commonly abused drugs throughout Florida include methamphetamine, heroin and pharmaceutical drugs which are actually causing more damage than cocaine abuse alone.

Just in Hernando County there were 47 deaths in 2008 as a result of addiction per data from the Hernando County Medical Examiner’s Office and a 300% increase in prescription drug fraud. In addition the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office reported that there was a 33% increase in pharmacy robberies across the county.

The state of Florida is being left with many negative consequences of addiction that pull on the state and federal budgets which are already overdrawn. And for addicts, many will end up in jail or dead without some type of successful drug treatment solution.

One program that understands the negative consequences that can occur without proper treatment is Narconon Spring Hill , known as Suncoast Rehabilitation Center . This past December, the inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program opened its doors to help addicts throughout the state of Florida and in Hernando County. The Narconon Spring Hill drug and alcohol rehabilitation program achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent recovery from addiction.

The Narconon program has successfully graduated over 25,000 addicts worldwide and has 120 centers in 44 countries and has been in operation for more than 44 years.
