Narconon Helps To Curb Marijuana Problem in Florida

As marijuana cultivation increases in Florida, Narconon expands its in-state treatment capacity.

According to recent statistics, Florida is the number one state in the nation for indoor marijuana cultivation. In 2006, alone there were almost 50,000 marijuana plants eradicated in the state through the Drug Enforcement Administration and more than 500 homes in Florida growing the substance.

Marijuana has been a commonly abused drug for many years but with the recent increase in availability and cultivation, it is being used more and more by residents of Florida.

Narconon , an inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation program has recently seen a surge of clients coming into their program for marijuana abuse. “Based on the fact that more than 30% of high school student have tried marijuana before graduating high school there are going to be a number of people who become addicted and use it every day,” says Erica Catton Director of Promotion for Narconon. “And many of them not be able to stop without some type of treatment program.”  Catton adds that the indoor cultivation in the state reports have shown that the THC levels of the drug are dramatically higher, coming up from 7% to 25% or more,  making it harder for those who start smoking marijuana to stop using.

The good news is that there are now three Narconon programs located in Florida that specialize in handling marijuana addiction and achieve a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from the drug.

“We have personally graduated hundreds of marijuana addicts from our drug treatment programs in Florida,” says Catton. “But, with cultivation of marijuana being a major problem in the state, we knew there are many more people out there that need help.”

Narconon has stably handled addiction for 44 years,” adds Catton. “This is what we do.”
