Narconon Offers Tips For Drug Addiction During The Holidays

Alcohol and drug use during the holiday’s peaks as a result of underlying problems; Narconon offers solutions.

Whether it’s a cause for celebration or to relieve depression, drugs and alcohol are commonly accepted means to enhance holiday cheer or relieve holiday stress. For many of us overdoing a few drinks at the party and waking up with the subsequent throbbing headache and ill mood the next morning are about all there is to it. We go on with our lives and spend the next few days of the New Year recovering from our holiday "cheer".

However, what about the loved one who spends most of the holiday tying one on with the  rest of us, but is truly addicted?  How do we distinguish the two?

Narconon is offering a three-part holiday series on the cycle of addiction, barriers to recovery and solutions for those struggling with substance abuse.

The series will cover the three main barriers to successful recovery; guilt, cravings and depression and how these barriers can be more prevalent during the holiday season and will also offer tips on how to get someone help who is addicted to drugs or alcohol.

The barriers to successful recovery can be very real. With the added financial stress, time pressure, relatives visiting as well as memories of past periods of depression holidays can appear to be the source of gloom for some. But is it the holidays to blame?

The truth is, for an addict, depression, cravings and guilt actually manifest themselves after the person becomes addicted, not before.

Especially during this time of the year is vital concerned family members be informed of the cycle of addiction and know the signs of, "Is my loved one just having a good time or is he/she addicted." Often times at holidays it is too easy to overlook a son or daughter or family member’s ongoing addiction as just engaging in some holiday cheer.

Addiction has a definite cycle it follows and the progression into it can be gradual and masked.

Narconon Saves Life of Addict

Drug Rehabilitation through Narconon helped one addict get his life back.

Paul had spent 12 years being addicted to drugs. You name it, he took it; pills of all kinds, as well as, cocaine, heroin, ectasy, Oxycontin to name a few. He spent his life running from everything and everyone. He was literally falling apart. His family seeing Paul get more and more self-destructive, running into legal issues and losing his job contacted Narconon .

Paul started the Narconon program , and for the first time felt there was hope. "Knowing I was entering treatment was my first sense of relief in a long time," says Paul reflecting back one year after completing Narconon drug treatment. "My biggest win is that these days I actually believe in myself.  There is nothing I can’t handle that life brings my way."

The Narconon Program is a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Narconon only addresses the physical and mental aspects of addiction, but also gives one the skills in life to handle the problems and barriers in life that led to addiction in the first place. The treatment philosophy of Narconon is distinctly unique and starts with a cycle of addiction that takes place because of an underlying problem that drugs or alcohol become a solution for.

Narconon Drug Education for Red Ribbon Week

Narconon Graduate delivers drug education lecture in local school for Red Ribbon Week in Florida.

John, a Narconon Graduate and Drug Prevention Specialist , delivered an eye-opening and revealing lecture on drugs to 120 elementary and middle school children this week as his part in making the truth about drugs known for Red Ribbon Week.

John’s lectures are so successful, because he knows drugs from the dark side up. He’s been there and lived it. John, in his youth was addicted to cocaine and endured his own battle with drug abuse which appeared to have no solution until his parents brought him to a Narconon drug rehabilitation program .

After successfully completing the Narconon program, John’ nightmare of addiction was over for good. John with his new found zest for life, a zest previously subdued by drugs, now wanted to give back.  He trained on drug prevention and began lecturing in schools, church groups and communities to speak about drugs and the dangers of addiction. Recently, John has been addressing Florida given Central Florida is labeled a "High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA)" by White House Drug Policy.

According to the White House Drug Policy the average age for starting drugs in Central Florida Schools is 12-14 years of age, elementary and middle school children need the drug prevention tools the most before becoming hooked on drugs for life.  As John says, "Knowing the truth about drugs is the biggest factor in keeping youth from ever becoming addicted in the first place.  Nobody ever explained to me why I shouldn’t have done drugs. I was told not to do drugs as a kid but I never knew why until I did Narconon."

Drug prevention is what Red Ribbon Week is all about. In 1988, the National Family Partnership (NPF) coordinated the first National Red Ribbon Week with President and First Lady Nancy Reagan serving as honorary chairpersons. Today, the NFP estimates that more than 80 million people participate in Red Ribbon events each year. The campaign unifies communities to take a stand against drugs and show intolerance for illicit drug use and the consequences.

In addition, children need to be armed with the truth about drugs to stay truly clean for life.  Given the traps of drug use are many, it’s necessary for a full understanding as to why illicit drugs are harmful for kids to stay truly clean. As John says,
"Our drug prevention presentations are very effective because we start to educate kids at a young age so that they understand what drugs really are and what they do to a person."

John’s lecture covers the effect of drugs on the body and the mind.  "I wanted people to know how easy it is to get hooked on drugs and the reason why."  he adds.

In the spirit of Red Ribbon Week John continues to educate and inform. "Whether it’s delivering drug education talks in schools, churches or to community groups, Narconon’s purpose is to permanently end addiction."  he says.

Narconon Celebrates National Recovery Month

With National Recovery Month fast approaching, Narconon celebrates more than 40 years of successful treatment.

This year National Recovery Month, a group whose aim it is to promote benefits of drug and alcohol rehab in society, will celebrate 20 years of promoting that successful recovery is possible with drug treatment. A major participant in the annual National Recovery Month campaigns is the Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Program.  Having helped hundreds of thousands of addicts, family members and loved ones that have been negatively affected by addiction, Narconon spreads the word that effective rehab can lead to permanent recovery.

The Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program was started in 1964 by a habitual criminal and heroin addict, William Benitez, who was searching for a solution to his own substance abuse problems. One day while browsing through the prison library he came upon a book by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that offered him a permanent solution to his own addiction.

From there the Narconon program grew and now operates more than 150 centers in 50 different countries, providing successful treatment to addicts from across the globe while achieving a more than 70% success rate for permanent recovery from substance abuse.

One area that Narconon has really helped is the eastern United States.  The program currently operates 6 Narconon centers in this part of the country and has plans to open many more. Erica Catton, Director of Promotion for Narconon East U.S.  explains, “Our program gets results and we have many successes that we will be promoting over the next month to celebrate National Recovery Month and show that permanent recovery from addiction is possible with successful treatment.”

In addition to sharing true stories of recovery, many of the Narconon centers in the eastern United States will be working in the drug prevention arena during this time to educate children, families, and communities on the dangers of addiction to stop substance abuse before it starts.

“Narconon continues to expand delivery in both the drug rehabilitation and drug prevention areas,” adds Catton. “We are very proud of what our program has achieved in creating stable recovery for thousands of addicts and we look forward to helping more people from around the world.”

Alcoholism No Longer A Problem For Narconon Graduate

Ex-alcohol addict gets and stays sober for 10 years thanks to Narconon drug rehab program.

Imagine feeling depressed, lazy and unmotivated every day of your life. Well this is exactly what Stephen Austin* experienced when he became addicted to alcohol. Now 10 years clean and sober, Stephen looks back on his life as a former alcoholic, and explains that the addiction caused him to drop out of college, quit his job and basically alienate everyone that cared about him.

The last straw was one night when Stephen was even pulled over for a DUI, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because that was when his parents found the drug and alcohol rehab program that saved his life. The name of the program was Narconon.

When Stephen arrived at the Narconon program he felt stuck and scared at first but as he started the program he felt tremendous sense of relief. Looking back on it Stephen explains what helped him the most, “I would say two parts for me.  The first was definitely the sauna program. It was amazing and completely life-changing.  The second would have to be fully understanding how to change conditions in life and realizing that I could actually be responsible for what happened to me.”

The Narconon program is a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that achieves a success rate of more than 70% for permanent sobriety. Narconon has been helping people end addiction since 1966 and has had more than 25,000 graduates of their program just since 1995. The reason why Narconon is so successful in treating addiction is because it handles the problem on two levels – first tackling the physical aspect of addiction and using a sauna detoxification program to remove drug residues from the body thereby eliminating physical cravings.

The second part of the Narconon program handles the underlying issues of why the person started using drugs in the first place, and by using life skills therapy raises the ability of the individual so they no longer have to abuse drugs or alcohol.
Today, with 10 years of living drug- and alcohol-free, Stephen is successfully self-employed, has been married for 7 years, and says he has an “unbelievably beautiful and amazing” daughter.

“After doing a TON of research, I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that there is no other drug or alcohol treatment center that offers more to rehabilitate a person than Narconon,” claims Austin.

If you or someone you know is struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction contact Narconon today at 877-237-3307.

In an area where the unemployment rate is more than 75% and over 10,000 homeless children are living in the streets, the country of Haiti is in need of aid. Recognizing the necessity of the problem, one group that recently contributed to help children in the country is Narconon .

Narconon is a successful drug education and rehabilitation program that also contributes to other non-profit and humanitarian efforts. A recent project that Narconon is assisting with includes helping to provide food and support to impoverished areas all over the world.

Narconon’s most recent project, The Global Pioneers’ Haitian “Adopt an Orphanage” group, lets people contribute directly to designated orphanages in Haiti.  The idea being that the people can pick and choose from items the orphanage needs most and send it out with no middlemen.  The current campaign is designed to get private food donations being sent to 20 orphanages in Haiti. These shipments will help feed more than 2,000 children of all ages.  Once this is underway, other orphanages will be added.  The products most needed to help the children include powdered milk, canned meats, rice, beans, oats, flour, multi-vitamins, oil and cheese.

Yvonne Rodgers, the Executive Director for Narconon Centers in the Eastern U.S. is a contributing member of the project and has recently donated many needed items through Narconon to help the orphans in the country. “Whether it is teaching kids to read in our summer reading programs, hosting parenting programs, volunteering at the fire department, donating books to schools and libraries or stuffing Christmas stockings for less fortunate families, we felt like we were doing our part” she says “But once we were briefed on the average life of kids in Haiti, we knew that we had to get into action and do something to help.”

Narconon’s global community efforts are part of its purpose to help make the world a better place.  The drug rehabilitation program has helped many thousands of individuals and families throughout the world successfully recover from addiction as well as educated millions more about the truth about drugs.

Narconon Graduate Delivers Drug Education in Florida

Ex-addict gives back to the community. The Narconon drug ed program helps spread message about the dangers of drugs to Florida youth before it’s too late.

John, a Narconon graduate and Drug Prevention Specialist, like many, did not start out with a drug-free life. Addicted to cocaine as an adolescent and young adult, he fought his own battle with substance abuse that ended with his parents sending him to a Narconon drug rehabilitation program .

After successfully completing treatment at Narconon, John decided to give back and underwent drug prevention training to visit schools, church groups and communities to speak about drugs and the dangers of addiction. Today John believes that education and prevention are the first steps in stopping drug use before it starts. Recently, he has taken a particular interest in educating people in Florida with the current drug use statistics for adolescents in the state.

According to the White House Drug Policy , approximately 11% of Florida high school students reported abusing prescription drugs and 15% of school aged kids have used marijuana in the last 30 day. In addition, 10% of kids ages 12 to 17 reported the use of an illicit drug over a one month period in Florida, showing a great need for effective drug education.

“Knowing the truth about drugs is the biggest factor in keeping youth from ever becoming addicted in the first place,” says John. “Nobody ever explained me to why I shouldn’t have done drugs. I was told not to do drugs as a kid but I never knew why until I did Narconon. Our drug prevention presentations are very effective because we start to educate kids at a young age so that they understand what drugs really are and what they do to a person.”
John understands that drug education is the first step to handling addiction and that was why he decided to help educate Florida youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. “I wanted people to know how easy it is to get hooked on drugs and the reason why,” he says.

Even with drug prevention organizations set up in Florida such as the Florida Alliance for Endangered Children, Florida Office of Drug Control and Community Coalitions Prevention Center, Narconon drug education in Florida is a much needed component to stopping teen and adolescent drug use before it starts.
And for those that are already addicted, Narconon offers successful drug rehabilitation in Florida that achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety and currently operates three centers in the state.

“Whether it’s delivering drug education talks in schools, churches or to community groups, Narconon’s purpose is to permanently end addiction,” says John.

Narconon Program Backs Up NIDA Study By Providing Effective Drug Treatment

According to a science-based study by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) there are many key principles to successfully treating addiction. Per NIDA’s new release called “Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment: A Research Based Guide,” it is critical to locate a drug treatment program that can handle the specific needs of the client, including their physical, psychological, medical, occupational and legal needs.

With so many different methods of treatment available, it is sometimes difficult to find a treatment option that will fully address all these issues and can also successfully handle addiction.  Most government resources recommend looking for a program that has good results for permanent recovery from substance abuse over time.

One program that has an outstanding reputation for fully addressing these needs through components for successful recovery is the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program . Since 1966 Narconon has implemented a drug treatment module that achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent recovery from addiction.  It does so by addressing all the key treatment needs of the individual as outlined by NIDA.

Clients admitting themselves into the Narconon program must undergo a full physical to assess their personal health needs in order to get a medical approval to enroll onto the program. From there, clients will complete a full withdrawal program under medical supervision and 24 hour care.

Then Narconon works with the client to fully handle the physical aspect of addiction through a sauna detoxification program, that eliminates toxic drug residues that store in the body during drug use.  This unique detox has been found to greatly reduce physical drug cravings.  Once this is complete, the Narconon program provides life skills therapy to locate and handle the psychological components of addiction and get to the underlying reasons why the person started using drugs in the first place. Handling these past problems and learning problem solving life skills allows individuals to successfully engage in life without the use of drugs and/or alcohol.

Once a client has successfully completed drug treatment through Narconon, they can also apply for the Narconon training program where they can receive full training to work at a Narconon center in many different areas.

Like many drug treatment programs , Narconon will at times treat clients that have a history of legal difficulties as a result of their substance abuse issues. Narconon staff work with the courts to provide treatment options and meet the legal criteria necessary to fully treat the client and aid in the resolution of legal difficulties.
Drug treatment programs typically utilize different components for recovery but the Narconon drug rehab program incorporates all the elements recommended by NIDA for successful drug treatment.

If you or someone you know is in need of a drug treatment program that utilizes the key components for successful recovery contact Narconon today at 877-237-3307.
