Narconon Saves Life of Addict

Drug Rehabilitation through Narconon helped one addict get his life back.

Paul had spent 12 years being addicted to drugs. You name it, he took it; pills of all kinds, as well as, cocaine, heroin, ectasy, Oxycontin to name a few. He spent his life running from everything and everyone. He was literally falling apart. His family seeing Paul get more and more self-destructive, running into legal issues and losing his job contacted Narconon .

Paul started the Narconon program , and for the first time felt there was hope. "Knowing I was entering treatment was my first sense of relief in a long time," says Paul reflecting back one year after completing Narconon drug treatment. "My biggest win is that these days I actually believe in myself.  There is nothing I can’t handle that life brings my way."

The Narconon Program is a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Narconon only addresses the physical and mental aspects of addiction, but also gives one the skills in life to handle the problems and barriers in life that led to addiction in the first place. The treatment philosophy of Narconon is distinctly unique and starts with a cycle of addiction that takes place because of an underlying problem that drugs or alcohol become a solution for.

And whether it’s a 12 year addiction like Paul’s or one that lasts for a shorter or longer duration, drug treatment with Narconon allows the individual to fully recover from addiction and go on to become a stable, productive and ethics member of society.

This should be the goal of all effective drug rehabilitation.

Today Paul has just celebrated one year clean but there are millions who are still dealing with the tragedy of drug addiction. If you or someone you know is in need of a drug rehab program that gets results contact Narconon East U.S. at 877-237-3307.

Narconon Drug Education for Red Ribbon Week

Narconon Graduate delivers drug education lecture in local school for Red Ribbon Week in Florida.

John, a Narconon Graduate and Drug Prevention Specialist , delivered an eye-opening and revealing lecture on drugs to 120 elementary and middle school children this week as his part in making the truth about drugs known for Red Ribbon Week.

John’s lectures are so successful, because he knows drugs from the dark side up. He’s been there and lived it. John, in his youth was addicted to cocaine and endured his own battle with drug abuse which appeared to have no solution until his parents brought him to a Narconon drug rehabilitation program .

After successfully completing the Narconon program, John’ nightmare of addiction was over for good. John with his new found zest for life, a zest previously subdued by drugs, now wanted to give back.  He trained on drug prevention and began lecturing in schools, church groups and communities to speak about drugs and the dangers of addiction. Recently, John has been addressing Florida given Central Florida is labeled a "High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA)" by White House Drug Policy.

According to the White House Drug Policy the average age for starting drugs in Central Florida Schools is 12-14 years of age, elementary and middle school children need the drug prevention tools the most before becoming hooked on drugs for life.  As John says, "Knowing the truth about drugs is the biggest factor in keeping youth from ever becoming addicted in the first place.  Nobody ever explained to me why I shouldn’t have done drugs. I was told not to do drugs as a kid but I never knew why until I did Narconon."

Drug prevention is what Red Ribbon Week is all about. In 1988, the National Family Partnership (NPF) coordinated the first National Red Ribbon Week with President and First Lady Nancy Reagan serving as honorary chairpersons. Today, the NFP estimates that more than 80 million people participate in Red Ribbon events each year. The campaign unifies communities to take a stand against drugs and show intolerance for illicit drug use and the consequences.

In addition, children need to be armed with the truth about drugs to stay truly clean for life.  Given the traps of drug use are many, it’s necessary for a full understanding as to why illicit drugs are harmful for kids to stay truly clean. As John says,
"Our drug prevention presentations are very effective because we start to educate kids at a young age so that they understand what drugs really are and what they do to a person."

John’s lecture covers the effect of drugs on the body and the mind.  "I wanted people to know how easy it is to get hooked on drugs and the reason why."  he adds.

In the spirit of Red Ribbon Week John continues to educate and inform. "Whether it’s delivering drug education talks in schools, churches or to community groups, Narconon’s purpose is to permanently end addiction."  he says.

Narconon Joins Forces With Local Businesses To Fight The Drug Threat

With the budget for local drug prevention programming being drastically slashed in New Jersey this year, a coalition of area Montclair businesses are stepping in to present “Raisin’ Week,” a week designed to empower children with drug prevention education and parents with tools to raise a drug-free family. From October 26 through 31, a series of five Narconon anti-drug lectures will be delivered by Dr. Tyran Mincey, Doctor of Chiropractic, at area businesses and schools in Montclair. The activities will culminate with a Drug-Free Halloween Party and Health Fair on October 31. “Raisin’ Week” is being presented by the Montclair Public Schools Health and Wellness Initiative in partnership with Integrated Healthcare of Montclair and a cross section of Montclair enterprises.

Local businesses are opening their doors to the public for the lectures, which are based on materials from Narconon’s drug education and rehabilitation programs . Narconon is an international non-profit organization that has been providing effective drug rehabilitation and prevention services for over 40 years.

“Concerned about our youth, Montclair businesses are working together to address one of the most serious crises facing our young people today,” said Mincey. “Getting families educated on the Truth about Drugs is really the only way kids will be able to make good decisions about drugs.  These drug prevention talks are designed to open up family discussions, help families set clear guidelines and give them tools to create safe and drug-free lives.”

The prevention talks, which run 30 to 45 minutes, will include “What is a Drug?” on Monday, October 26; “Physical Effects of Drugs” on Tuesday, October 27; “Chemical Effects of Drugs” on Wednesday, October 28; “Alternatives to Prescription Medications” on Thursday, October 29, and “Talking to Kids About Drugs” on Friday October 30 from 3–5 p.m. at Proponent Federal Credit Union. Saturday’s Halloween Party, which includes games, face painting as well as stress and health screenings, wraps up the week-long prevention activities. It will be held at Unbelieva-Bills, NewJersey’s premier children’s entertainment center.

Drug Rehab Must Encompass Physical Handling

The effectiveness of Narconon drug treatment centers on a process that reduces physical drug cravings.

Before Barry Smith* went into the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program his life was in complete chaos. Struggling with addiction for more than seven years, Barry had tried many types of treatment but always ended up back on drugs. He wound up looking at jail time after receiving his second driving under the influence (DUI) charge, lost his home and he was living on the streets and in various drug houses.

“I was confused and depressed,” he explains. “It was my fifth attempt at drug rehab and I wanted to go into a program that would help me to stop using drugs permanently.”

Barry enrolled in the Narconon program and one of the first steps of treatment was handling the physical aspect of his addiction. The Narconon program uses a unique therapy to reduce physical drug cravings through a dry-heat sauna. Clients undergo the sauna detoxification process that actually helps to remove drug residues from the body in order to reduce physical cravings, which many consider to be the number one reason why a person relapses. A key component of this cleansing process is also replenishing the body with nutritional supplements so that people heal faster and feel better.

“The sauna was great,” says Barry. “I felt better than I had ever felt in my life. I had no urges to use drugs anymore, more energy and finally felt normal again.”

Erica Catton, Director of Public Services at Narconon explains that recent government addiction studies point to relapse rates with drug treatment between 40 and 60% as an industry norm. Catton comments that one of the main reasons for that is that most treatment programs to not address this physical aspect of addiction.

“Many of the clients we see that come through Narconon have tried and failed at other types of treatment,” she says. “But it’s not that those programs are ineffective but that they do not address the physical aspect of addiction so clients are much more likely to relapse.”

The program also addresses the mental and emotional components of addiction by using life skills therapy to help raise the ability of the individual.

Using this proven approach to handling substance abuse, the program achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent sobriety from addiction.   While the program is individually-based, it is considered long-term because it can easily last 3-6 months.

And as a result of this successful treatment Barry has been able to get and staff off drugs stably. “Narconon was the only thing that worked for me,” he says. “I am completely drug free and I feel great.”
