For many of us overdoing a few drinks at the party and waking up with the subsequent throbbing headache and ill mood the next morning are about all there is to it. We go on with our lives and spend the next few days of the New Year recovering from our holiday "cheer".

However, what about the loved one who spends most of the holiday tying one on with the  rest of us, but is truly addicted?  How do we distinguish the two?

Narconon is offering a three-part holiday series on the cycle of addiction, barriers to recovery and solutions for those struggling with substance abuse.

The series will cover the three main barriers to successful recovery; guilt, cravings and depression and how these barriers can be more prevalent during the holiday season and will also offer tips on how to get someone help who is addicted to drugs or alcohol.

The barriers to successful recovery can be very real. With the added financial stress, time pressure, relatives visiting as well as memories of past periods of depression holidays can appear to be the source of gloom for some. But is it the holidays to blame?

The truth is, for an addict, depression, cravings and guilt actually manifest themselves after the person becomes addicted, not before.

Especially during this time of the year is vital concerned family members be informed of the cycle of addiction and know the signs of, "Is my loved one just having a good time or is he/she addicted." Often times at holidays it is too easy to overlook a son or daughter or family member’s ongoing addiction as just engaging in some holiday cheer.

Addiction has a definite cycle it follows and the progression into it can be gradual and masked.

Family Referral Best Way to Find the Right Drug Rehab

Mother of recovered addict sets forth to help others to find addiction treatment that works.

When Sharon was looking for a drug rehab program for her daughter, the entire family did not know where to turn. “When there is an addiction in the family, you feel embarrassed because you don’t want anyone to know,” she explains in a recent interview. “You research what is close to you because as a parent you feel you need to control the situation and then you find out that the treatment facilities close to you do not have the success rate that is high enough.  There is also the trust factor because there are so many different things on the Internet and you don’t know if the treatment is going to work or not.

“Like many families, we were not familiar with rehabilitation options,” she adds. “We had no experience with it and the cost factor came into play and the insurance as well.  We were in quite a difficult situation.”

At the end of the day Sharon and her husband decided that despite all the barriers, they had to do something to help their daughter by sending her into a program that delivered successful drug treatment . Thanks to her husband who called local government officials as well as licensing groups to reinforce their decision, the family sent their daughter to the Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. “I think the deciding factor for us is that we got enough information and did enough research to know that this felt like it was the right choice,” says Sharon.

And as a result their daughter is now celebrating 9 years drug-free and Sharon explains that what started as a nightmare turned into a miracle, a fairy tale story. “Knowing that our daughter is drug-free makes us feel this peace in our hearts.  We know that this was because of the practical knowledge she learned at Narconon that helped her conquer her addiction for good.”

Because of Sharon’s successes with her daughter through Narconon, she decided to set forth on a journey to help others to find the Narconon program. “I decided that because of my daughter’s success I wanted to share my story with others. I now had a solution to other people’s problems. It became so important that I share that.”

Sharon joined the Narconon Field Representative team and has been working to help send people into the Narconon program for several years now. The Narconon Field Representative team is a group of people, Narconon graduates, family members and friends that have decided to help others to get treatment through the residential drug rehab programs.  Narconon has been helping people to permanently recovery from addiction since 1966 and currently operates over 120 centers in 44 different countries.

“Anytime I have been able to help someone by sending them to Narconon and educating them on addiction is a huge gain for me personally,” Sharon explains. “Addiction is a life or death problem and if I can save one person, one family by telling them my own story then I have done my job.”

Narconon, one of the largest drug rehabilitation and prevention groups in the world has just released a new public service announcement to help those plagued by the ever-growing problem of drug and alcohol addiction. The announcement, produced by Dolce Films , tells the story of the negative consequences of addiction and offers services through Narconon drug rehab .
Erica Catton, Director of Promotion for Narconon East U.S. explained that with the holiday season coming up, Narconon is ramping up its drug rehabilitation and prevention efforts over the next few weeks. This is in an effort to help counter the ever increasing use of drugs and alcohol during this time of the year.

“The latest drug statistics tell the story of addiction in our country. An estimated 20.1 million Americans aged 12 or older used an illicit drug during a one month period,” Catton said. “This represents 8% of our population showing that now, more than ever, we have to get those addicted into drug rehabilitation programs that work.”

Some of the most common drugs of abuse include marijuana and hashish, cocaine, crack-cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used non-medically. This is according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Services Administration Office of Applied Studies.

In addition the National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that an estimated 48 million people (ages 12 and older) have used prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons in their lifetimes. This accounts for approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population.

“Our new public service announcement will be released to media all over the country,” Catton explains. “This, along with our drug prevention efforts and expansion on the drug rehabilitation front, is just one more way to get the message out that with effective substance abuse treatment we can end addiction.”

The Narconon program has been successfully treating addiction since 1966 and currently has 120 centers in 44 different countries.  If you or someone you know is looking for a drug rehab program that gets results contact Narconon today at 877-237-3307.

Successful Drug Prevention Through Narconon

Narconon travels to Rhode Island prison to deliver drug education talk.

To help celebrate Red Ribbon Week coming up this month, Narconon has increased its public outreach by delivering successful drug prevention lectures all over the country. This past week, Narconon New England traveled to a medium security prison in Rhode Island to deliver a drug prevention talk that received rave results.

“I did a Narconon Truth about Drugs Presentation called ‘Drugs and Emotions’ to this group of inmates and it was a great talk,” says Maria Di Liegro, Executive Director of Narconon New England. “The inmates had lots of great questions and got a lot out of the talk. The Narconon drug ed presentations are extremely well received there.”

Di Liegro has traveled to the prison many times to speak with the inmates who are turning their lives around through treatment through the Criminon Program while incarcerated. She has worked in the drug prevention field with Narconon New England educating both children and adults in schools, prisons and community groups about drug abuse and addiction.  The main purpose is always sharing the Narconon drug prevention message which has demonstrated its effectiveness throughout the world.

The Narconon program was started by a prison inmate named William Benitez back in 1966. Searching for a solution to his own drug problem and serving a sentence in Arizona state penitentiary, Benitez came upon a book in the prison library by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that finally gave him a solution to overcome his own addiction. From there Benitez, with the help of Hubbard and many volunteers, was able to expand the program all over the world. Today Narconon operates more than 100 drug rehab facilities in 44 different countries and has delivered drug education lectures to 3.5 million people worldwide.

Narconon Handles Prescription Drug Abuse

Narconon is providing solutions for the growing prescription drug abuse problem.

Prescription drug abuse fills press headlines.  Celebrity names like Michael Jackson, who died of overdose according to preliminary findings of the LA coroner, along with Anna Nicole Smith, DJ AM and Actor Heath Ledger all died of prescription drug overdoses. With this many recent well known prescription drug deaths, it would seem of some importance for us to have a better awareness of the dangers of prescription drug abuse .

Prescription drugs are more and more mass marketed with encouragement to get drugs with the often chimed phrase, "Ask your doctor, if (the now advertised drug) is right for you".  As a result, doctors are more and more looked to not so much as healers but as purveyors of medical drugs. Celebrities, Actors, Athletes also promote drugs in various ways, if merely by the fact it’s promoted to our youth that they take drugs.

The celebrities above as well as other stellar names, like radio show host Rush Limbaugh, who also battled prescription addiction, didn’t start out seeking to get hooked. So what is addiction and how does one get hooked?

According to Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation and Education Centers , addiction is defined as a condition characterized by repeated, compulsive seeking and use of drugs, alcohol or other similar substances despite adverse social, mental and physical consequences.

Many drugs today are extremely addictive and in many cases, the cycle of addiction begins with a problem, discomfort or some form of emotional or physical pain.

“In every patient we see, there is some type of problem or issue that has led them into the addiction in the first place,” says Erica Catton Director of Promotion for Narconon. “But the mechanics behind it is that by helping to bring these problems to the surface and giving the person skills to handle them, they then won’t have to go back to using drugs as a solution to a problem. They can be free from addiction ."

Drug addiction is solvable whether illegal or prescription drug abuse Narconon can handle addiction as they fully understand the mechanics behind addiction and the solution to unraveling addiction.

And Narconon has been the frontrunner in solving drug abuse problems for more than 40 years.  Since 1966 Narconon Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation and Education Centers have been permanently handling addiction with an over 70% permanent success rate. Prescription drug abuse can be solved through the successful method of treatment delivered at Narconon.
