Narconon New England Provides Drug Education to Nurses

Prescription drug abuse is the current most prevalent form of drug addiction according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) . In fact, prescription drugs are abused more than cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, Ecstasy, and inhalants, combined.  This in addition to street drug abuse among teens is why Narconon New England Drug Prevention is being delivered to medical professionals.

Narconon New England Drug Prevention is a non-profit drug abuse prevention and education organization that has been actively educating children and adults alike since the 1970s on the truth about drugs and drug abuse. More than a million people in the New England area have benefited from their drug education lectures.

As anyone knows when they visit a doctor or have a hospital stay, it is the nurses we see the most.  In schools if we get ill, we see the nurse.  For this reason, it is vital that nurses are educated on the signs of drug abuse and the effect of drugs on the body and the mind.

In last week’s most recent drug education lecture, a Narconon Drug Education Specialist, delivered a drug education briefing to the school nurses in the state of Massachusetts.  She was very well received with excellent response from the nurses with one nurse saying, “"Excellent presentation!  Loved the medical background and the connection to how drugs last in the body for years.  I can now educate others on how drugs remain in the body for an extended time."

In addition another nurse explained that she thought the presentation was, “Very informative,” and went on to say; “Even as a nurse, I had no idea how drugs were kept in the body.  I realized how hard it is to quit when the body can keep releasing drugs for many years.”

The DEA points out that we are a "pill-taking society". Pharmaceutical companies spend millions annually promoting the benefits of their drugs. The education most often given to professionals such as doctors and nurses is mainly stressed in what drug is used for what ailment.  The omitted education is the full story of how drugs affect the body.

Narconon reminds us that drugs, whether street or prescription, are essentially poisons and that many street drugs started out as prescription drugs.  As the DEA states in its fact sheet on drugs, "You cannot predict the effect that a drug can have on you!"  Since drugs are not a natural substance the body can utilize, all drugs have side effects. Depending on the drug there can be many.  Addiction can be one of those. How drugs affect the body as a whole is key data that is often overlooked or not taught in schools.

Narconon New England drug education is valuable for school children and adults alike. The Narconon drug education lectures are statistically proven to reduce drug abuse among teens.

Doctors and nurses are very valuable to our society. Their willingness to help us in our most desperate times is truly admirable. By working with the medical professionals in schools Narconon can help reduce both prescription and street drug abuse.

North Carolina Boy Scouts Receive Drug Education

The famous motto of the Boy Scouts is "Be Prepared".  In today’s modern world it takes on new meaning as teens and youth are constantly bombarded with drug ads in the media as well as celebrity popularization of illicit drugs.  However, the Boy Scouts of, North Carolina are setting an example of getting informed about the dangers of drug abuse with the help of Narconon.

Narconon is a non-profit drug prevention, education and rehabilitation organization.  One of their key activities is educating youth on the traps of drug abuse.  In the same way Scouts learn proper trail markings to stay on the correct path, so they need to learn the truth about drugs to avoid the pitfalls of drug use.  It’s statistically proven that children and teens attending Narconon drug education lectures are far less likely to abuse drugs in the future.

This past Monday at Brien, a Narconon Drug Education Specialist for the Carolinas, spoke to 50 scouts ages 12-16 and 15 parents attending the Narconon Drug Education lecture at the Eagle’s Nest Boy Scout Lodge in North Carolina. Brien went over the effects of drugs in the body and the truth of what drugs actually do to one.  The attendees received copies of the Narconon Drug Education booklet "Ten Things Your Friends May Not Know About Drugs" which details the scientific truth about drugs in a youth-friendly fashion.

The Boy Scouts at the Narconon Drug Education lecture responded enthusiastically to Brien, asking questions and wanting more information.  Narconon Drug Education presentations are different in that they require audience participation and relate the material to situations the students actually run into in life. The students then leave the lecture with information they can and do use as has been shown by follow up studies .

Brien also presented two "I Support a Drug-Free Future" T-shirts to Scouts for inviting him to deliver the presentation.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) North Carolina is a regional hub for illegal drug trafficking. Marijuana is one of the most prevalent drugs in the state as it is grown locally on federal forest lands. Given the high risk of drug exposure to our Carolina youth it is vital that drug education be given high priority in North Carolina and Narconon will continue to deliver drug prevention lectures across the state.

Rehabilitation Program Teaches Addict To Set A Good Example

Vital part of overcome addiction is getting back on a moral road that aids in recovery.

John, a Narconon graduate from 2001 spent many years of his life struggling with a drug addiction that caused him to not be able to set a positive example to himself or others. “I was on drugs for 7 years,” he explains, “and nobody ever explained me to why I shouldn’t have done drugs. I was told not to do drugs as a kid but I never knew why until I did Narconon.”

As a result of this John  nearly lost everything in his life that was important to him until one day he woke up to find his mother in his living room with an ultimatum. “I woke up one day and my mother was there and asked me if I was ready to get better,” says John. “I thought it was more counseling, or more meetings. To my surprise it was the greatest thing that has ever happened in my life. It was called Narconon.”

John enrolled in the Narconon program and handled many of the underlying reasons why he started using drugs in the first place. While at Narconon he also enrolled in a course called The Way To Happiness where he read something that changed his life forever. “There was a part in The Way To Happiness book about setting a good example,” he explains. “It was at that point that I decided I was done with my old life of drugs and I was going to get trained as a drug prevention specialist so I could help others.”

After completing the program, John trained and became a Drug Prevention Specialist for Narconon speaking to community groups, churches, and families about the dangers of addiction. Today John has been off drugs for 7 years and has educated hundreds of thousands of people all throughout the country.

The Narconon program has been using The Way To Happiness as a part of its drug rehabilitation program for decades. The common sense guide to moral living was written in 1981 by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard and has been used in schools, businesses and community groups all over the world with over 70 million copies distributed in 90 languages. Students on the Narconon program study this book and learn moral precepts that have been neglected or altogether omitted in their lives.

“Doing The Way To Happiness Course was a point of change in my life,” says John. “I now know that I can set a good example and help others through youth drug education as well as adult.”

According to the White House Office of Drug Control Policy , there is an increase among teens of prescription drug abuse as well as a lessening of disapproval (increased acceptance) towards marijuana among tenth and eight graders.  This trend indicates students are receiving a lack of the true information about drugs.

Narconon is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide successful drug rehabilitation as well as education and prevention information. One of the services offered by Narconon East US is drug prevention and education lectures to schools, businesses and community groups.

Narconon was established in 1966 and has educated over 3.5 million children on drug education and training programs. Studies show that it is important to give students the truth and vital information about drugs to make a difference. In fact, an outcome study done demonstrates the effectiveness of Narconon’s drug education lectures among teens showing a reduction in drug use as a result of teens attending the lectures.

Narconon’s sole interest is humanitarian. The founder of Narconon himself was a drug addict and had been sent to prison.  In prison, after reading a book by American author and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard, William Benitez established the Narconon program after he and dozens of other inmates used the principles from the book to permanently end their addictions to heroin. From this simple beginning Narconon, which means literally "no drug", grew into a worldwide network of over 120 centers worldwide providing drug prevention, education and rehabilitation services.

In the eastern United States there are several High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) as plotted by the US Drug Enforcement Agency including Florida, Michigan, New York and Washington D.C. - 13 areas overall. It is a vital offensive action for drug prevention programs to be taught in schools. This is a Narconon specialty. Narconon offers drug education that is properly surveyed and tailored to each area based on current trends and reaches the audience to effectively educate on the dangers of drugs and addiction.

Drug abuse ruins lives. There is an effective way to prevent it from ever occurring, that is with effective drug education. If you know of a school, business or community group that would benefit from effective drug education contact Narconon at 877-237-3307.

Successful Drug Prevention Through Narconon

Narconon travels to Rhode Island prison to deliver drug education talk.

To help celebrate Red Ribbon Week coming up this month, Narconon has increased its public outreach by delivering successful drug prevention lectures all over the country. This past week, Narconon New England traveled to a medium security prison in Rhode Island to deliver a drug prevention talk that received rave results.

“I did a Narconon Truth about Drugs Presentation called ‘Drugs and Emotions’ to this group of inmates and it was a great talk,” says Maria Di Liegro, Executive Director of Narconon New England. “The inmates had lots of great questions and got a lot out of the talk. The Narconon drug ed presentations are extremely well received there.”

Di Liegro has traveled to the prison many times to speak with the inmates who are turning their lives around through treatment through the Criminon Program while incarcerated. She has worked in the drug prevention field with Narconon New England educating both children and adults in schools, prisons and community groups about drug abuse and addiction.  The main purpose is always sharing the Narconon drug prevention message which has demonstrated its effectiveness throughout the world.

The Narconon program was started by a prison inmate named William Benitez back in 1966. Searching for a solution to his own drug problem and serving a sentence in Arizona state penitentiary, Benitez came upon a book in the prison library by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that finally gave him a solution to overcome his own addiction. From there Benitez, with the help of Hubbard and many volunteers, was able to expand the program all over the world. Today Narconon operates more than 100 drug rehab facilities in 44 different countries and has delivered drug education lectures to 3.5 million people worldwide.
