Narconon Supports Take Back Day

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) have announced a national day where prescription drugs can be “Taken Back” no questions asked. Take-Back Day is on Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.   Collections sites can be found by logging onto the DEA website.

Narconon East U.S., a non-profit drug rehabilitation and education organization, fully supports Take-Back day. Narconon has seen the ever increasing rise in prescription drug addiction since the FDA lowered the rules for pharmaceutical companies to advertise on TV and other media prescription drugs.  As profits of the pharmaceutical companies soared so has prescription drug addiction.

The ONDCP recognizes prescription addiction as the fastest growing drug problem in the U.S.  The easy availability of prescription drugs makes this possible. By recognizing Take-Back day, used prescription drugs can be properly disposed of without them leading to an addiction.

Narconon East U.S. has seen many cases where unused prescriptions fall into the hands of a teen or other family member than the one the prescription was originally intended for. The result of this can be the teen becoming addicted or giving or selling the prescription to others. Many of today’s prescription painkillers are extremely addictive.  The result can be setting a teen onto the road of addiction.

By promoting a Take-Back day addictive and otherwise harmful prescription drugs are taken out of circulation as they should be. Prescriptions are intended for the one the drug is prescribed for under a medical doctor’s care.  Although there are many case on record of individuals becoming addicted to a doctor’s prescription these same drugs falling into the hands of someone who they weren’t prescribed to can create an even greater problem in society.

As the DEA states, “You cannot predict the effect a drug can have on you”.  As Narconon explains, all drugs are poisons. The amount taken determines the effect.  Take enough of any drug and it will kill you. Drugs are regulated by prescription because of the high potential for abuse. The close monitoring by a medical doctor with a patient fully informed of the drug and all its possible side effects and communicating any possible side effects the patient notices to his physician is the best guarantee a person has of avoiding addiction.

Take-Back day is a way for Americans to lessen the potential of addiction to prescription drugs. Narconon fully supports this effort.  If you know of someone that has already become addicted Narconon offers drug rehabilitation services or if you would like information on drug education contact Narconon East U.S. at 877-237-3307.

Narconon Opens the Eyes of Addicts Concerning Children

It seems odd to think a drug addict would have any concern for children. However, as Narconon East U.S. explains, as the addict is freed from his addiction and put on his own road to a better life, the care and handling of children becomes an inevitable part of that equation.

Narconon has as a fundamental part of its drug rehabilitation program the restoring of moral values to addicts using the non-religious universally popular book, The Way to Happiness.  This book has been in use since 1981 and is a common sense guide to living.  Morals in The Way to Happiness are approached in a good sense fashion, eliminating the didactic approach to morals often associated with them, instead the book appeals to ones reason and good sense.

The Way to Happiness was written by one of the most prolific and widely read authors of our time, humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard . The booklet is in use in more than 130 countries around the world with over 70 million copies in circulation. The 21 precepts and subsequent text that explains each precept is studied by Narconon students after their addiction has already been addressed by nutrition, physical processes and various drills.

The results have been remarkable in its application. Oftentimes Narconon students may enter the program from broken families and with forlorn children of their own. Children whose lives would otherwise be subjected to neglect due to parental drug addiction or, if the State had intervened, a life of foster care. Studying The Way to Happiness precept four, "Love and Help Children", opens the eyes of such formerly neglectful parents and gently presents common sense data on children and raising them giving the former addict real direction on how to become a successful parent.

As it states in The Way to Happiness, "Today’s children will become tomorrow’s civilization".  Making this real to former addicts that do have children is vital to their child’s success and that of their own. To bring this home with even more reality The Way to Happiness has now been produced in a full length film on DVD using movie magic to present the full text of the book in a way that the viewer gains a complete understanding of each precept in an entertaining fashion.

Children are our most important resource. Abused and neglected by parents hooked on drugs or alcohol doesn’t just impact their own lives but the lives of our overall civilization. By instilling moral values and bringing addicts up to responsibility for their own lives and that of their children, a better future can result for not only them but ourselves as well.

As one Narconon graduate puts it, "I became happy and grateful that I was given the opportunity to do the Narconon Program and gain control of my life and be able to make decisions that would lead me down a road of happiness and success. Thank you Narconon for giving me my life back."

The Narconon program is designed to not only solve addiction but give the student the necessary tools to live a successful life. The Way to Happiness is one of those tools that produces stellar results.

Pill Mills Major Contributor To Prescription Drug Epidemic

Narconon East US has been seeing an increasing number of people seeking help for prescription pain pill addiction.  This is not surprising when one takes into account the skyrocketing numbers of new pain clinics in South Florida that has allowed prescription drug trafficking to go unchecked creating many new prescription pain pill addicts.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy has reported South Florida Pill Mills are proliferating at an alarming rate. In 2007 there were only 4, in 2009 115 were in Broward County, Florida alone.

In Broward County Florida a Grand Jury was convened to investigate the huge increase in Pill Mills in South Florida. The top 25 dispensing doctors of Oxycodone in the Nation are located in Florida with 18 of them in Broward County. In 2008 all 50 of the top 50 doctors dispensing Oxycodone in the Nation were in Florida.  The result is floods of new prescription pain pill addicts.

A Pill Mill is a pain clinic that "treats patient for pain" by dispensing large quantities of controlled substances for non-medical purposes.  Typically they are rogue clinics putting out pills for cash. Patients seeking drugs go to these clinics faking illnesses and complaining of non-existent pain. After the doctor does an "exam" they then prescribe a 30 day cocktail of usually 4 different drugs. The patient then travels to another clinic and goes through the same "dance" obtaining more drugs.  This allows drug dealers and traffickers to obtain enormous quantities of drugs and clinics to profit handsomely and plausibly deny any wrong doing.

Narconon East US provides effective drug rehabilitation in various clinics throughout the East US with three locations in Florida. As people have bee contacting Narconon seeking help for drug addiction the "new addict" is the prescription drug addict.

Prescription drugs as just as harmful as any other drug when abused.  In fact, many prescription painkillers are extremely addictive and have serious side effects.  The Narconon procedure fortunately handles the prescription drug addict just as it does the Heroin addict, however the unfortunate part is that legally operating clinics are the new source of addicts in our nation.

The Grand Jury in Broward County points out Florida was delinquent in  enacting legislation authorizing a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. 38 States had enacted such legislation and Florida was the largest State that had not despite it also having the top 50 of the nations top dispensing doctors of pain pills.  This of course allowed Florida to be a safe haven for drug traffickers and thus they have flocked to Florida making Florida a High Intensity Drug Trafficking area.

Finally in July 2009 Florida enacted legislation, however, it doesn’t go into effect until December 2010. Meanwhile more and more addicts are formed.  Education about prescription drugs and their potential for abuse is essential.

Narconon East US offers drug prevention, education and drug rehabilitation services. If you would like more information on prescription drug abuse or the Narconon program contact Narconon at 877-237-3307.

Narconon Steps In To Help Current Abuse Trends

The National Institute on Drug Abuse Highlights and Executive  Summary for 2009 shows unhealthy trends in increasing drug abuse trends, however, Narconon has stepped into the forefront by providing effective drug-free solutions.

As 2009 comes to a close the trends in drug abuse paint a bleak picture.  Probably the most startling trend increase is prescription painkiller addiction , not just in overdoses and abuse but also being more prevalent on the streets.  Marijuana was also reported as high and stable for most areas. In the nation’s capital higher percentages of juvenile arrestees tested positive for Marijuana than for any other drug.

With drugs so prevalent and available in our society Narconon has recently issued a 30 second holiday public service announcement encouraging Americans to get those who need treatment help before it is too late.

With rising drug abuse trends and no signs of this epidemic stopping, Americans need now more than ever effective drug prevention and rehabilitation. Narconon provides not only effective drug and alcohol rehabilitation but drug education lecture in schools, businesses and community groups to prevent youth from ever turning to drugs to begin with.

Wherever Narconon Drug education goes in drug abuse trends reduce among the area. The truth is once youth or adults are truly educated on the truth about drugs and the ramifications of even a single drug trip, the desire to try drugs plummets.

When it comes to rehabilitating drug addicts Narconon has proven highly effective.  With normal drug rehabilitation having a success rate of about 16%, Narconon is in the vanguard with an over 70% success rate that continues year after year.  Narconon graduates continue to live drug free lives.

2010 brings forward new hopes and dreams to be achieved. As 2009 closes we can leave the errors of the past and set a new course for the future. America does not have to continue its rising trends of drug abuse. Narconon offers the solution for both those who have fallen into the trap of drug or alcohol addiction and those who are about to start on that treacherous self-destructive road down of trying illegal drugs for the first time.

If you would like more information on Narconon’s drug education, prevention and rehabilitation programs or would like to schedule a lecture in your own school or community group contact Narconon at 877-237-3307.

Narconon Continues Expansion In Eastern U.S.

Drug addiction has affected the lives of many in 2009 with the increase in prescription drug addiction as well as the economic recession upwards of 23 million have gone the route of drug addiction according to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy . However, in 2009 a bright spot in the field of drug addiction has shown through.

Narconon East US has had a very successful year in drug prevention, education and rehabilitation.  In terms of drug prevention.  The way to stop drug addiction before it starts is through effective drug education. Narconon, which was established in 1966, delivers drug prevention and education lectures to schools, community groups and businesses.  As research statistic show that many new drug users begin at the age of 12,  Narconon focuses its lectures on school aged children and over 3.5 million children have been reached .

Narconon lectures are unique from ordinary drug education talks because the drug prevention specialists reach the children at their reality level and get them participating as well as learning about the dangers of drugs. In New England the Narconon Drug Education and Prevention group reached over 2500 people in 2009 in the New England area informing them on the dangers of drugs and steering them into leading drug-free lives.

As many in our nation have already traveled the road of drug addiction, it is important to have a program that successfully rehabilitates a drug addict into being a productive, ethical member of society.  Narconon drug rehabilitation does just that with several exact steps within the overall program handling both the physical and mental aspects of addiction.

The Narconon program has been widely delivered throughout the Eastern United States in 2009 at 6 different facilities ranging from Michigan in the north to Georgia and Florida in the south and Louisiana to the west.  These Narconon centers have effectively freed over 240 people from drug addiction in 2009 and set them on the road to living happy, successful, drug-free lives.

Narconon graduates rave about the program as this graduate states, " I came into Narconon a broke down person who had no control or power over choice… It’s not just drugs that got handled, it was my life. Instead of doubting myself I know I can now achieve all my goals. This was the best decision I have ever made. I have my life back!"

Another Narconon graduate in 2009 says, "I wanted to detox from cocaine… I signed up for the [Narconon] program and was informed that there was hard work involved. I saw remarkable results in the students that were graduating and was inspired. The course work is where the biggest gains for me were made. I found out about the whys and wherefores of human behavior especially relating to basic life skills…I am honored and very grateful for the new life that I have received.”

The Narconon program has been successfully saving lives since 1966 and has more than 120 centers in 50 different countries. Narconon has been delivering successful drug rehabilitation and education services in the eastern United States for 10 years and will continue its expansion this coming year and for many years to come.

If you know of someone struggling with addiction or would like more information on the Narconon program or on drug education, prevention and rehabilitation contact Narconon East U.S. at 877-237-3307.

Prescription Drug Addiction in Florida Serious Growing Threat

The rise in prescription drug abuse threatens the health of many Floridians. According to the Grand Jury Interim Report in Broward County, FL, from the Florida State Attorney’s office, there is a huge increase in prescription drug use and illegal trafficking in the state currently.

This has been seen on the drug treatment side as well as Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers have noted an increase in prescription drug addiction admissions. Because of this Narconon is doing all it can with its drug education and prevention lectures to inform youth and adults that it is not just street drugs are becoming more and more of a problem as well as increasing the numbers of people going into Narconon drug treatment programs.

Unfortunately, prescription drugs are often easier to obtain than street drugs and one need not reach further then the medicine cabinet to set oneself on a path of serious addiction.

According to the most recent Grand Jury report, with the aftermath of 9-11, the United States has been strengthening our borders causing drug traffickers have had a harder time transporting illegal drugs into the country.  What happened was that dealers started diverting legal drugs for illegal purposes.

This has greatly affected the state of Florida as, in South Florida alone the growth of pain clinics distributing legal pain killers is enormous.  In 2007, four pain clinics operated.  By 2008 it swelled to 66.  From August 2008 to November 2009 the number of pain clinics opening and operating in South Florida exploded from 66 to 176.

Over 53 % of the nations, Oxycodone is distributed by 43 doctors located in Broward County in South Florida. The drug traffickers found their new revenue stream in prescription drugs.  By sending in "patients" feigning painful conditions, large quantities of prescription drugs can be obtained.

Law enforcement also testified before the Grand Jury stating burglaries and robberies in the area of the pain clinics increased as well as street sales of prescription drugs, identity theft and organized crime activities.

For those hooked in by the dealers, the results have been traumatic for families. Overdose deaths in 2006 as reported by the Florida Medical Examiners Commission were 2,780.  As prescription drugs have been flooded into South Florida communities, 10,036 deaths had detected levels of prescription drugs with 4,924 of those deaths directly related to prescription drugs.

The ultimate handling is people becoming more aware of the dangers of prescription drug addiction . This is where Narconon comes into play as the organization has been trying to get the message out about this by delivering drug prevention and education lectures for schools, businesses and community groups and continuing to provide effective rehabilitation solutions. The Narconon program has been effectively helping addicts overcome addiction since 1966 and achieves a more than 70% success rate for permanent recovery.

Narconon encourages adults to become informed of the dangers of prescription drug addiction and their side effects.  If you know of someone struggling with addiction or would like more information on Narconon drug rehabilitation, education and prevention services contact Narconon East U.S. at 877-237-3307.

During Holidays Relapse Rates Can Increase

Drug and alcohol addiction are not new. What is new is recognizing the barriers to recovering from drug addiction. Once one recognizes the barriers through successful treatment they stop using drugs permanently .

One primary barrier to recovery is overcoming the mental and physical cravings for drugs or alcohol.  Cravings are strong, uncontrollable urges to use drugs or alcohol that drive the addict to once again use addictive substances.

Cravings can be compared to a time when you went for a long time without eating a meal and you were really hungry. Such as the feeling before the Thanksgiving feast after fasting all day in anticipation of your favorite foods.  The feeling of hunger is both a mental and physical sensation triggered when the body needs food for nutrients and energy. One may get compelling thoughts of eating, a growling stomach and shakiness and even an ill mood by not having eaten. As soon as you eat, the hunger pangs stop and you feel good about satisfying your hunger.

Drug cravings are similar, but the desire to use drugs is much stronger and more intense.  Someone who is craving drugs will feel like life itself is dependent on getting and taking their preferred drug. Thus, they will say or do almost anything to get the drug to handle their intense cravings.

During the holidays, those addicted can have an increasingly large number of cravings with the accompanying stress of the season. This in addition to the guilt that is resultant to the addiction and the remembrance of this guilt through seeing family, old friends etc that the addict has hurt in some way can be too much. Someone experiencing drug cravings will go to almost any length to satisfy their cravings; which to the addict is only solved by more drugs or alcohol.

But, the problem is that once a person starts abusing drugs the residues from those drugs stay in the body and disrupt the body’s natural processes which result in cravings, create nutritional deficiencies and cause other affects. Part of the Narconon program is a fast and simple method of eliminating these drug residues through a sauna detoxification program. This results in improved mental and physical health; this is a critical step to reducing drug cravings and stopping relapse.

Having to remain hooked on drugs in the vicious cycle of intense cravings and resultant in more drug use now has a simple, painless and drug-free solution. The Narconon program gives the steps to permanently end drug cravings and free the addict from the vicious cycle of drug abuse.

If you would like more information on the barriers to successful recovery from addiction call Narconon East U.S. today at 877-237-3307.

Narconon Releases Public Service Announcement

Narconon, one of the largest drug rehabilitation and prevention groups in the world has just released a new public service announcement to help those plagued by the ever-growing problem of drug and alcohol addiction. The announcement, produced by Dolce Films , tells the story of the negative consequences of addiction and offers services through Narconon drug rehab .
Erica Catton, Director of Promotion for Narconon East U.S. explained that with the holiday season coming up, Narconon is ramping up its drug rehabilitation and prevention efforts over the next few weeks. This is in an effort to help counter the ever increasing use of drugs and alcohol during this time of the year.

“The latest drug statistics tell the story of addiction in our country. An estimated 20.1 million Americans aged 12 or older used an illicit drug during a one month period,” Catton said. “This represents 8% of our population showing that now, more than ever, we have to get those addicted into drug rehabilitation programs that work.”

Some of the most common drugs of abuse include marijuana and hashish, cocaine, crack-cocaine, heroin, hallucinogens, inhalants, or prescription-type psychotherapeutics used non-medically. This is according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Services Administration Office of Applied Studies.

In addition the National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that an estimated 48 million people (ages 12 and older) have used prescription drugs for nonmedical reasons in their lifetimes. This accounts for approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population.

“Our new public service announcement will be released to media all over the country,” Catton explains. “This, along with our drug prevention efforts and expansion on the drug rehabilitation front, is just one more way to get the message out that with effective substance abuse treatment we can end addiction.”

The Narconon program has been successfully treating addiction since 1966 and currently has 120 centers in 44 different countries.  If you or someone you know is looking for a drug rehab program that gets results contact Narconon today at 877-237-3307.

Successful Drug Prevention Through Narconon

Narconon travels to Rhode Island prison to deliver drug education talk.

To help celebrate Red Ribbon Week coming up this month, Narconon has increased its public outreach by delivering successful drug prevention lectures all over the country. This past week, Narconon New England traveled to a medium security prison in Rhode Island to deliver a drug prevention talk that received rave results.

“I did a Narconon Truth about Drugs Presentation called ‘Drugs and Emotions’ to this group of inmates and it was a great talk,” says Maria Di Liegro, Executive Director of Narconon New England. “The inmates had lots of great questions and got a lot out of the talk. The Narconon drug ed presentations are extremely well received there.”

Di Liegro has traveled to the prison many times to speak with the inmates who are turning their lives around through treatment through the Criminon Program while incarcerated. She has worked in the drug prevention field with Narconon New England educating both children and adults in schools, prisons and community groups about drug abuse and addiction.  The main purpose is always sharing the Narconon drug prevention message which has demonstrated its effectiveness throughout the world.

The Narconon program was started by a prison inmate named William Benitez back in 1966. Searching for a solution to his own drug problem and serving a sentence in Arizona state penitentiary, Benitez came upon a book in the prison library by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard that finally gave him a solution to overcome his own addiction. From there Benitez, with the help of Hubbard and many volunteers, was able to expand the program all over the world. Today Narconon operates more than 100 drug rehab facilities in 44 different countries and has delivered drug education lectures to 3.5 million people worldwide.

Narconon Saves Life of Addict

Drug Rehabilitation through Narconon helped one addict get his life back.

Paul had spent 12 years being addicted to drugs. You name it, he took it; pills of all kinds, as well as, cocaine, heroin, ectasy, Oxycontin to name a few. He spent his life running from everything and everyone. He was literally falling apart. His family seeing Paul get more and more self-destructive, running into legal issues and losing his job contacted Narconon .

Paul started the Narconon program , and for the first time felt there was hope. "Knowing I was entering treatment was my first sense of relief in a long time," says Paul reflecting back one year after completing Narconon drug treatment. "My biggest win is that these days I actually believe in myself.  There is nothing I can’t handle that life brings my way."

The Narconon Program is a long-term residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. Narconon only addresses the physical and mental aspects of addiction, but also gives one the skills in life to handle the problems and barriers in life that led to addiction in the first place. The treatment philosophy of Narconon is distinctly unique and starts with a cycle of addiction that takes place because of an underlying problem that drugs or alcohol become a solution for.

And whether it’s a 12 year addiction like Paul’s or one that lasts for a shorter or longer duration, drug treatment with Narconon allows the individual to fully recover from addiction and go on to become a stable, productive and ethics member of society.

This should be the goal of all effective drug rehabilitation.

Today Paul has just celebrated one year clean but there are millions who are still dealing with the tragedy of drug addiction. If you or someone you know is in need of a drug rehab program that gets results contact Narconon East U.S. at 877-237-3307.
